I Feel The Need, The Need For Tweed!
Cycle Jerk — Huzzah! A Washington, DC tweed ride emerges! You may remember my post from late September, whining that other cities were having all the fun and DC was in desperate need of tweed. It looks like my whining has payed off. Now I don't think that the ride is a direct result of my post but I'll just pretend it may have helped things along. Here is the info from Dandies and Quaintrelles Washington D.C.'s first ever tweed ride is set to begin on November 15, 2009. Our reason is pleasure and style. Our cause is Arts ...

Washington, DC Got Tweeded But Good
Cycle Jerk — ... The first annual Washington, DC Tweed Ride was a great success! Eric and the crew from Dandies and Quaintrelles really pulled it off. Thanks to you and all your volunteers and kudos on the great piece in the post this morning! The number was over 200 people that pre-registered so I am imagining there were a lot more who showed up. It certainly seemed that way. The event started with some wrangling to get signed up and have photos taken but before we knew it the ride was on. ...

I Feel The Need for Tweed
TheWashCycle — If you missed yesterday's Tweed Ride, you missed a good time. First of all, the weather was nothing short of spectacular. If anything, it was too warm for a Tweed Ride, but I didn't hear anyone complaining. The turn out was impressive. Several hundred, I would guess, for a last minute ride, that's never been held before in DC. And people took it seriously. Penny farthing bikes (yes, plural), aviator helmets, jaunty hats, parasols; people took it seriously. I talked to one guy who bought his whole outfit ...

This ride is just dandy
Roger Kramer Cycling: Blog Page — ... . The group Dandies and Quaintrelles , which organized the Washington ride, urged cyclists to leave their Lycra, fleece and outer shells at home. Instead, they were encouraged to wear tweed and other vintage clothing on old-style bikes. "Style is our concern," the group says on its blog. "Purposeful amusement is our desire. We saw great style and imagined considerable amusement in the images of tweed rides in other major cities." In another post, the group adds: "This ride is about the beautiful simplicity and enjoyment of cycling from one place to another in style and ...

RidingPretty-Bicycle Chic California — ... "Presented by Dandies and Quaintrelles, the Washington DC First Semi-Annual Tweed Ride was held on November 15, 2009. We assembled in an alley (8th and H Streets NE), rode past the Capitol, the White House, and ended our tweed-clad, velocipedic journey at Marvin's on 14th Street NE where our thirsts were quenched with pints of beer and G&Ts." ...
